Dr. Leonie Alatassi (née Wunderlich) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute for Media Research | Hans Bredow Institute (HBI). Her research focuses on the information-seeking and opinion-forming behaviors of young people. In her work, she also examines new actors in public information dissemination as well as algorithmic platform structures.
As part of the project “#UseTheNews – News Consumption and Media Literacy in the Digital Age”, Leonie Alatassi is conducting various studies on information consumption and media literacy, with a particular focus on people under 30. In the UseTheNews newsletter, she provides a monthly overview of the latest publications on news and information consumption, digital media use, and political participation among young people.
As part of her master’s degree in journalism and communication studies at the University of Hamburg, Leonie Wunderlich analyzed the news consumption practices and news avoidance strategies of young adults. Alongside her bachelor’s degree in media and communication studies at the University of Düsseldorf and Aberystwyth University in Wales, she worked as a freelance journalist for a regional daily newspaper.
