In “Wer regiert das Internet? [Who rules the internet?]” PD Dr. Matthias C. Kettemann answers three questions on the topics of information intermediaries as well as whether disinformation and hate speech are a danger to democracy.
Abstract
There is no empirical evidence that disinformation and hate speech are a danger to “democracy.” More dangerous are the shifts in social frames of reference, the desensitization of political culture, the attractiveness of anti-enlightenment behaviour, and the use of inhumane terminology by politicians.
