At HBI, she heads the research group <a href=\"https:\/\/newws.leibniz-hbi.de\/en\/research\/pa1\/transformation-of-journalism-and-the-public-sphere\/\">Transformation of Journalism and the Public Sphere<\/a>. Her research focuses on the transformation of journalism within a changing environment, the changing relationship between journalism and its audiences, and the theoretical foundations of communicative AI between medium and a communicative partner. She approaches these questions from the perspectives of communication theory and media sociology, with a particular interest in how human and machine communication reshape one another.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;335559739&quot;:120}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Wiebke Loosen is co-spokesperson of the DFG- and FWF-funded Research Unit (FOR 5656) &#8220;Communicative AI: The Automation of Social Communication&#8221; (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/comai.space\/en\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">ComAI<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\">), which investigates how societal communication changes when communicative AI becomes part of it; within the research unit, she leads the project on the role of communicative AI in journalism. She is also active in the international <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/worldsofjournalism.org\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Worlds of Journalism Study (WJS)<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"> network and led the German country study in its third wave.
