We cannot count the times we attended Zoom-based workshops in the last months, organized Zoom-based lectures or spoke at Zoom-based events. Apart from latent data protection concerns (taken seriously in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/digital\/skype-zoom-webex-teams-datenschutz-1.4956812\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berlin<\/a>, less seriously in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.baden-wuerttemberg.datenschutz.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/PM-Zoom-bessert-nach_fin.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg<\/a>), which is usually tries to allay by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/gdpr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pointing to its GDPR compliance<\/a>, Zoom has managed to weather the current discussion on (and growing dissatisfaction with) private content governance rather well \u2013 cases when it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2020\/jun\/12\/zoom-admits-cutting-off-activists-accounts-in-obedience-to-china\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bowed to Chinese pressure<\/a>\u00a0to close down accounts of US-based Zoom meetings related to the Tiananmen massacre notwithstanding.<\/p>\n<p>While Facebook and Twitter, and intermittently TikTok, have been heavily criticized for their approach to fighting online hate speech, Covid-19-related disinformation and untruth about elections, Zoom has escaped scrutiny. It is, after all, not a social network.
